I have got a 1099-misc which is a nonemployee compensation. I have figured out how to line the federal tax using 1040 form. However, it's very hard for me to figure out how to file CA tax go back. I would like to know which line I should put the amount from 1099-misc. Thanks.


Answer: If this is the return you earned while living in CA, then put amount from line 12 of Form 1040. Better use a software.

I Am Claiming NJ State Tax Credit While Filing My CA Tax. Do I Still Need To File A Non-resident NJ Return?

I was dwelling of CA in 2007. But my employer, based in NJ, was deducting NJ tax instead of CA tax.


Answer: Yes. You have to send in non-resident NJ return besides the CA resident return. The employer should have deducted NJ tax from your pay check only if you had worked in NJ during the year.
