Think that I receive $1,200 tax rebate under the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008. Is this then treated as revenues on my 2008 Federal Tax Return? Can it be considered as a gift from my Uncle Sam and thus be tax exempt? THIRD
Answer: No, this is NOT return and will not be taxed at the Federal level. Although the States are free to tax it if they wish, none have announced an intent to do so that I have heard of and many have scrambled to ordain special legislation to ensure that it will not be taxed at the State or Local levels.
