Do I File Income Tax For A State I Live In But Do Not Work In?

I unbiased moved from VT to NY in August. I plan to file income taxes with VT and MA but not NY. Some friends have told me I need to file with NY. This makes no faculty. I have no income earned from NYS. Anyone know about this? I rent an apartment in NYS (no property tax).
