I heard from the IRS aegis and Frankfurt and a bureaucratic office here in Hungary that as an American citizen teaching in Hungary for less than two years I am exempt from income taxes. But the indoctrinate I am teaching at has been withholding tax money out of ignorance of this law and I can't figure
Answer: What taxes are you talking about? If you're talking about US taxes, that's not willy-nilly true. You may be able to exclude your foreign earned income from US taxes if you meet sure conditions and file a timely return but you can't claim any carte-blanche tax exempt stature on the withholding end.

Answer: I haven't indeed looked at the tables, but $2467 a month is about $30000 a year. Tax on that is (very roughly) $4100 not counting your pattern deduction and exemption.
