If My Federal Student Loan Has Not Defaulted Will I Receive The IRS Tax Rebate?

The IRS' website is not direct on whether the student loans need to have defaulted or not. It just says if you owe the government for scholar loans the rebate will be applied to that. Any help is appeciated.
Answer: If it's not in delinquency, you're good to go.

Answer: As extended as you pay $600 in Federal Income Taxes (and I assume you do with $65K income), then you will come into a $600 rebate.

Answer: First of all, the rebates were planned based on your 2007 tax return. If your parents claimed you for 2007 and if you were under 17 by 12/31/07, then they would have received $300 on your behalf. They are entitled to that profit, not you.

My boyfriend says he ows the IRS around $400 but he says he thinks he'll still get his tax rebate thwart. I disagree, I think they'll take it. Does anyone know for sure?

You are right. The IRS will help him pay off his obligations and intercept his rebate. His rebate will likely be delayed due to this, as well as diminished.
