New York Tax Exempt - Contractors For Telecommunications Work?
Question by jc | Posted in United States
I'm told contractors doing effort for the wireless telecom carriers, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile etc are not required to debit tax on the associated work. Is there something in the New York State tax code that states contractor work is tax-exempt when performed for telecommunications?

New York Has Highest Cigarette Taxes in Nation
by Justin Higginbottom
New York now has the highest cigarette tax in the wilderness after Gov. Paterson signed off on a $1.60 escalation, bringing the overall tax on a gathering of cigarettes to $4.35. That means New York smokers will be paying around $10 a crowd (more if they are in New York Diocese which has its own $1.50 tax) and not quite half of that will be because of taxes. Putting aside the governor's warm bag for the strength of New Yorkers, his express has a just about $9 billion budget shortfall and will now rely on tobacco addicts more for a debt-free direction. The spread is theoretical to draw together $440 million in returns. Also raising takings are tax increases for snuff (96 cents per ounce to $2 per ounce) and wholesale cigars (46% to 75%).
