How Long Does The IRS Keep Your Tax Records?

I need copies of tax records from 1955-1964. Has anyone else recieved records from such a extended time ago or know if the IRS will have these available? Thanks

Answer: Tax returns are destroyed 6 - 7 years after they are processed. So your 1964 returns were destroyed in 1970 or 71. Minimal information is kept for longer periods on microfiche, but I have never seen anything prior to 1964, the year the IRS first computerized its records. I take over you need the records
