I have a idiosyncratic NIH grant (NRSA) as a postdoc that excludes me from having to pay social security (FICA) and unemployment taxes (FUTA) because I am not considered an worker. Ruined management, they are going to court for not paying sales tax. They have shown withholdings on every paycheck counterfoil, but I am not sure if they have been paying anything in, including social security. Is unemployment included in the normal deductions or is it a individual thing?
