Should Box 7 Of A 1099 Form Reflect The Gross Sales Commission, Or The Total Actual Dollars I Received?

I drudgery as a realtor for a broker and box 7 of the 1099 form this year reflects the total commission I brought into the business, and the actual net dollars I received was about $25K less after franchise fees, transactions fees, and a one of other incidentals. Aside from the personal information section and their tax payor number there are no other numbers in any other boxes on this form.

Answer: He is treating you as an except for contractor; like you run your own business. This is common in the real estate industry as it is with barbers and locks stylists.

You use the amount in box 7 as your "income" on schedule C. Then you list the franchise fees, transactions fees, incidentals, mileage you have in mind (or depreciation on the vehicle + service and repairs), meals you buy clients, portion of your cubicle-phone bill that is related to business (you need reciepts) etc. as expenses on the same form.

The net result is your reportable return.
